More passengers in Sardinian airports for Easter, in Olbia +60%

Alghero, Cagliari and Olbia airports recorded a significant increase in arrivals during Easter, according to data published by the portal Sardegna Mobility of the Region and processed by the Communication and Study Centre of UniOlbia.

From 17 to 31 March 2024, there was an increase of 17% compared to the same period of 2023, for a total of almost 125 thousand arrivals. 

The number of arrivals at Olbia Costa Smeralda airport - which welcomed international flights starting on 17 March, well in advance - recorded a stratospheric increase close to 60%.

Remember that Easter 2023 was April 9.

Three Sardinian airports on the rise

Here are the specific arrivals in the three Sardinian airports and the percentage changes, according to the revision of UniOlbia:

Alghero:

  • Arrivals in 2023: 20.655
  • Arrivals in 2024: 21.695
  • Absolute increase: 1.040
  • Percentage change: +5%

Cagliari:

  • Arrivals in 2023: 70.531
  • Arrivals in 2024: 78.988
  • Absolute increase: 8.457
  • Percentage change: +11.99%

Olbia:

  • Arrivals in 2023: 15.279
  • Arrivals in 2024: 23.997
  • Absolute increase: 8.718
  • Percentage change: +57.%

The Olbia-Costa Smeralda doubles

In total, combined arrivals at the three airports rose from 106,465 in 2023 to 124,680 in 2024, showing a total increase of 18,215 arrivals, representing a positive change of 17.1%.

This positive trend was particularly evident at Olbia airport, where the anticipation of international flights from 17 March contributed significantly to the increase in arrivals.

At the same time, the opening of the Hotel Cervo in Costa Smeralda on 28 March marked the beginning of the tourist season, contributing to the attractiveness of the island.
